Bitcoin Crosses $10,000, Then Quickly Tops $11,000

Bitcoin surged past $11,000 just hours after it rose above $10,000 for the first time in its nine-year-long history, the most-spectacular burst in a monthlong trading flurry that has transformed the virtual currency from a curiosity to a hot topic for mainstream investors.

Traders attributed the latest rally to interest from individual investors. “They see the price break $10,000, obviously they see the news, they hop on their app and go ahead and buy bitcoin,” said Bobby Cho, head of over-the-counter trading at Cumberland, the cryptoasset unit of Chicago high-speed trading firm.
